I make my home in deep burrows carved into sandy or clay soils near dry grasslands and coastal edges. I do not weave webs; I hunt with precision and patience, stalking prey under moonlight. Fierce and silent, I carry my young on my back until they’re ready to walk alone. I am shadow, soil, and instinct wild, enduring, and unseen.

Hello, my name is Aria. I am Phragmites australis, the Common Reed. Not to sound egocentric but I am one of the most ecologically significant and widespread plant species in the Tagus Estuary and other wetlands around the world.
I typically grow between 2 and 4 meters tall. My dense stems sway with wind and life, storing carbon and purifying the waters that flow through me. Some call me invasive, but I am in fact resilient.

I’m Lavinia, a Limonium vulgare. Literally salty, emotionally sweet. I thrive in windswept, salty marshes where others can’t survive. As an Ecological Supporter, I attract pollinators and help stabilize fragile coastal terrain. I live on the edge—between land and sea. My presence supports invertebrates that flamingos feed on. So if you’ve seen a flamingo strut, you can thank me for setting the buffet table.

Eu forneço casa e alimento e ajudo ao balanço de todo o habitat. a minha dificuldade aparece quando os humanos decidem industrializar, poluir e ocupar onde eu habito. Isso pode desequilibrar todo o ecossistema e este humanos futuramente vão sentir as consequências dos seus atos.

Olá, eu partilho o meu habitat com Phragmites, mas competimos frequentemente pela luz e pelo espaço, coexistindo em zonas de salinas. Ofereço fontes de néctar aos insectos, que podem ser presas das aranhas-lobo. A alteração dos níveis de salinidade e a construção de infraestruturas perturbam os ciclos naturais, afetando diretamente a minha espécie que depende deste ecossistema.

Oi vizinhança. Sou a Clonette — sim, aquela dos clones. Olhem, eu sobrevivo a quase tudo, mas isto está a ficar demais: lixo, dragagens, cimento por todo o lado… Até eu estou a perder espaço!

Sou Scarlet, filha do calor da terra e do silêncio das noites sem lua. Habito os campos secos, as dunas esquecidas, os solos soltos que ainda respiram sob o peso dos séculos. Escavo o meu refúgio com paciência, e ali espero, imóvel, até que a noite me chame para caçar. Mas cada ano que passa, sinto o mundo a mudar, e comigo, todo o meu clã sofre.

A terra onde costumávamos viver é agora cimento, estrada ou vinhedo. Já não há margem para as nossas tocas — o solo está duro, contaminado ou simplesmente ausente. As máquinas passam por cima de tudo, esmagando o que não veem. O calor é mais violento e o frio chega sem aviso. As presas são menos, envenenadas por pesticidas que não distinguem entre o que se quer eliminar e o que se quer proteger.

As crias que carrego nas costas, com todo o cuidado que uma mãe pode dar, têm cada vez menos lugares onde possam crescer. Muitas morrem antes mesmo de cavar a sua primeira toca. Outras são apanhadas por aves, por répteis ou por humanos que nos temem sem nos conhecer.

Nós, aranhas-lobo, não pedimos muito — apenas solo solto, um pouco de sombra, e silêncio suficiente para escutar as vibrações da vida debaixo dos nossos pés. Somos caçadoras solitárias, mas fazemos parte de uma rede que mantém o equilíbrio invisível do mundo.

Se ninguém falar por nós, desaparecemos. Não com estrondo, mas com o sussurro seco de uma toca vazia.

   O que acontece? Pisoteio em trilhos, destruição acidental de tocas por máquinas, recolha por colecionadores ou simplesmente medo e agressão humana.

Impacto: Mortalidade desnecessária de indivíduos adultos e juvenis, interrupção dos ciclos de reprodução.

Desempenho um papel importante na polinização. Seria bom lembrar aos humanos que o mel que saboreiam pode ter começado aqui, nas minhas flores salgadas, alimentando as abelhas que o produzem.

Concordo com Scarlet, os passeios noturnos (ou diurnos) podem ajudar-nos a criar uma maior ligação com os humanos, eles estão bem vindos a cheirar o meu lindo cheiro.
